Koala in a Tree

A koala wraps around a warm orange-brown tree trunk, surrounded by long green leaves and layered circular patterns that echo through the background. Fine white, orange and gold dot-style marks follow the fur and bark, giving the close portrait a richly textured, almost beaded visual rhythm. Its tall format and earthy palette make this a natural choice for a living room, bedroom, hallway or study where Australian wildlife feels welcome. The koala and trunk create a clear silhouette from a distance; close up, the leaf detail, fur pattern and fine repeated marks become the attraction.

I wanted the grip around the trunk to give the portrait a sense of closeness and security, while the surrounding leaves kept the image connected to a broader bushland feeling. The repeated marks follow natural contours rather than stand in for fixed symbols. The Aboriginal-inspired dot-style detail belongs to my contemporary personal practice and is used as a compositional choice for texture, colour and rhythm.
