Blue Heeler Portrait

Resting among small yellow flowers, a Blue Heeler keeps its ears pricked and its gaze turned just beyond the viewer. Flecks of silver, black and cream shape the coat, with warm tan around the face and paws. Sunlit trunks and soft green foliage give the portrait a natural setting without competing with those alert amber eyes. It is a companionable study of a dog at rest, still taking everything in. Supplied as a digital download; no physical artwork or frame is included.

Black, white and grey-blue markings shape the dog's broad face and upright ears, with warm tan points around the cheeks and legs. Ochre grasses, pale flowers and filtered bush light surround the reclining figure, giving the portrait a grounded outdoor atmosphere. I kept returning to the directness of the dog's gaze. There is intelligence and patience in the pose, but also enough watchfulness to suggest that rest is probably temporary. The warmer ground and light stop the cool coat from feeling severe and give the portrait a comfortable place to settle.
