Old Man Pa Kangaroo Portrait

Old Man Pa fills the frame in a close kangaroo portrait, with soft grey-brown fur set against warm gold grasses and a cool blue-speckled background. The calm forward gaze is the strongest feature, giving the artwork a direct, familiar presence without needing an elaborate scene around it. This portrait can sit comfortably in a living room, study, hallway or bedroom where wildlife is welcome but the palette still needs to feel grown-up. From further back the ears and face create a strong silhouette; closer in, the fur, whiskers and small background marks give the image its quieter texture.

I wanted this version of Old Man Pa to feel close and unforced. Rather than surrounding the portrait with a big landscape, I kept the attention on the face and let the golden grasses and cool background provide just enough context. The balance I kept refining was simple: warmth around the edges, detail in the fur, and enough stillness for the expression to remain the centre of the piece.
